o 300 Semi-finalists are selected annually, (Mid January), and win $1,000
o 40 Finalists are selected from the Semi-finalist group and present
their research at the National level in Washington D.C. in Early March.

o Powerpoint / Poster-board based competition
o Students must send in entry forms and abstract in the late fall and
are selected to either be a powerpoint speaker/presenter (top tier) or a Poster-board presenter (secondary tier)
Papers are evaluated by the committee in early December to determine which format each senior will be allowed to present with.
Projects are evaluated for:
- completeness
- teacher certification/recommendation/evaluation (STS teacher form is acceptable)
- mentor certification/recommendation/evaluation (STS scientist form is acceptable)
- significance of research
- quality and quantity of data
- presentation of data
- overall quality of the research report
There are a limited number of spots available due to restrictions from Albany on number of students we can send to the state competition the number of presentations that can physically be judged in one day. The exact number of rooms is determined the number of students applying in each category.Please know that the committee spends many hours making a fair and balanced schedule that will give as many students as possible the chance to compete and move forward.
o The top 18-20 "speakers" from the Westchester-Rockland, (WR-JSHS),
Sub-Regional fair progress on to the State Level competition at SUNY
Albany in Mid March. The top 2 presenters statewide progress onto the
National level.
o Paper and entrance forms must be postmarked by Mid November, (check
site for exact dates)
o WR-JSHS competition is held at SUNY Purchase, Life Sciences building,
in Mid-February.

o Top 8 individuals and up to the top 4 teams will progress on to present
their research at the
Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Early May.
Each year a different host city is selected.
The Intel ISEF, the world’s largest international pre-college science competition, annually provides a forum for more than 1,500 high school students from over 50 countries to showcase their independent research.
The Intel ISEF is the premiere science competition in the world exclusively for students in grades 9–12.
Each year, millions of students worldwide compete in local and school-sponsored science fairs; the winners of these events go on to participate in Intel ISEF-affiliated regional and state fairs from which the best win the opportunity to attend the Intel ISEF. The Intel ISEF unites these top young scientific minds, showcasing their talent on an international stage, enabling them to submit their work to judging by doctoral level scientists—and providing the opportunity to compete for nearly $4 million in prizes and scholarships.
International Sustainable World Project Olympiad
(Energy, Engineering, Environment)

o Open to all students with a project in the areas of Energy, Engineering or Environment of the Science Research Prog.
o Individual and Team research projects allowed.
o Poster-board based competition
o Students can win a spot to the ISWEEEP competition through their local ISEF affiliated fair (WESEF) or by sending in their research paper directly (deadline - March).
o All students accepted into the fair will present their research via
Poster-board
o Fair is held in Houston Texas, during the first week of May

Tri-County
Science Fair / Science Congress
o Open to all students that have
pursued any area of the Science Research Program.
o Individual research only.
o Poster-board then Powerpoint based competition
o Students must send in entry forms and abstract in the late fall.
o All students accepted into the fair will present their research via
Poster-board at JFK highschool in Somers in April.
o Top 9 individuals from the Poster-board session will progress on to
present their research, via Powerpoint format, at the
Science Congress competition later in the day.
Manhattanville
Science Competition
o Open to all students that have
pursued any area of the Science Research Program, (except Psychology/Behavior)
o Individuals or Teams (limited to two members)
o Poster-board format
o Students must send in entry forms and fee by early March
o All students accepted into the fair will present their research via
Poster-board Manhattanville College in Early April
Dupont Challenge
o Open to all students that have
pursued any area of the Science Research Program
o Individuals in grades 7-12
o 700-1000 word essay format
o All essays must be submitted by late January.
