Win 3rd place in the Team Category at the Intel International Science Fair

Tyler Lipperman (Yorktown High School Science Research Senior)
and his partners,
Elyse and Morgan Blueglass (Somers High School Science Research Juniors)
just presented their research at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair
(the larger and more global of the two Intel sponsored events)

They were so excited when their project
"Gaining Insight Into the Lives of Families That Have a Child with "Special Needs" - A Nationwide Study of "Typically Developing" Siblings"

was announced as a 3rd place award winner ($1000)
in the Team category (a category that spans over 300 projects from all
of the disciplines presented by teams internationally).

Matthew McIntyre - Yorktown HS Science Research Junior presented his research
"A Solution to the Worldwide Malaria Epidemic: A Comprehensive Study of Iron and Nitric Oxide's Effect on the Growth and Survival of Toxoplasma gondii"

and won a 4th place award ($500) in the Microbiology Category (a category with just under 300 indiv. projects)

and a special award --
US Air Force Research Award ($1500)

The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, a program of Society for Science & the Public (Intel ISEF), gathers the world’s most creative, intelligent and resourceful high school students from over 50 countries, to compete for more than $3 million in awards and scholarships and network with fellow students, academia and employees of sponsoring companies.

In 2010, Intel ISEF will assemble more than 1,500 finalists, Nobel Laureates, leading scientists and researchers along with 1,200 judges and potential future employers, for the world’s largest pre-college science fair. This six-day event is an extraordinary opportunity for Silicon Valley companies to establish corporate name recognition, nurture future technology development and encourage advanced education.

Competition in 17 science and engineering categories demonstrates understanding of scientific fundamentals combined with creativity in project areas such as energy, transportation, environmental science, medicine, health sciences, chemistry, behavioral and social sciences among others.
